My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Martha. Her loss is a great shock to me as we were close friends from the time we were both managers at the South Shore Chamber of Commerce in the 1970s. When Martha was elected Chairman of the Captain Robert Forbes Museum in Milton, she asked me to serve on the board, which resulted in my replacing her as Chairman. We were always in touch, often going out to lunch or dinner, or getting together for a concert. I took her to one of our favorite spots, Jake’s, just about a month ago with plans to get together soon again. We’d often be on the computer about midnight, and ended up instant messaging each other into the early morning. Our love of music was shared, but my limit was in a choir. Whenever I saw the BSO, for Tanglewood on TV, I always looked for Martha, even if she hadn’t said she would be singing. We share a love for history, and always compared notes, especially as she wrote her book, and my wife Mary, wrote hers, with some unknown facts for each of the areas of specialization. Martha’s positive and cheerful attitude, no matter what the situation we ever so constant. As a Fellow,I was thrilled to propose Martha for a Fellowship in the Massachusetts Historical Society. One of the best comments that can be made of a person who has died is that he or she left the world a better place than they found it. Martha truly did. Farewell dear friend.
