Condolences

Condolences to the Family of Olin D. Samson, M.D.

2021

I mourn the passing of a wonderful couple and former neighbors when I lived at 99 Locust street in Danvers in the early 1980s. I used to often walk our dog, Rascal, past the Samson "compound," office and home in two adjoining houses. Played golf with Olin once at Salem Country Club for a special reason. I was a 9-year old patient at Beverly Hospital near death, stricken with spinal meningitis in February 1959. I had, as my father told the story years later, days to live, Drs Johnson and Alt, the big names and leaders of Beverly Hospital, could not come up with an answer for my illness. Enter Olin Samson as a resident, I believe, and he asked Johnson and Alt if they had tried penicillin on me. They said no. They administered penicillin and I recovered, ALL because of Olin Samson. That was the first of what I presume was many lives he saved and to enrichen by his sterling medical care. Thus we were able to one day connect for golf while I was writing sports and golf for the Salem News and later wrote the 100-year history of Salem Country Club in 1995. I also wrote the history of Beverly Hospital in 2005, and shared Dr. Samson's life saving connection to me in my author's introduction. May Olin and Lyn delight in the love and grace of heaven with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ forever. Gary Larrabee 16 Burley Street Wenham Mass 978 771-9407 gary@garylarrabee.com
