Dennis and I met when we worked together at UMass and were close for many years. He was more than a friend. We lost touch in these last years, but I loved his intelligence, perceptions, dry humor, and gentle ways. He loved teaching. He was an introvert, who became energetic and animated when he got in front of his students, surprising even himself. His loss breaks truly my heart.
Paula R MaladyI had Dennis Byrnes for Cognitive Psych and back in the early 1980s. I loved his dry sense of humor. I'll always remember him as one of my favorite UMB professors. Rest in Peace!
Joyce MorrisseyI had the pleasure of having Dennis as a student at UMass/Boston in the late 1970's. I enjoyed his wit and also his advice and I managed to see him every once in a while when I was on campus teaching in the Psychology department. He was one of the faculty in Psychology that started me on my path of becoming an academic myself. Rest in peace Dennis.
Carolyn (Cohen) KnoepflerLaurel, I’m so sorry of the loss of Dennis. I can’t begin to tell you how good he was to me over the years helping me with some issues with my son which to me was one of the most difficult times of my life. I’m glad I was able to help him and be a friend to him. I know towards the end he would forget things and think things that weren’t true, however he would tell me stories from the Navy years. He told me when you were younger you would dress up the dog, His heart went out to the poor dog LOL.. When he had his good days he told me how much you meant to him. We must take comfort that he’s in a better place and at peace with your parents and your brother. Before he got sick with covid I believe he was scared every day because he didn’t really know what was going on. He was a good friend to me and I will miss him. May he Rest In Peace. ♥️
Tom PloofI was a student and teaching assistant to Dennis in the mid 70's at UMass Boston and remember him fondly. He was directly responsible for steering me to a successful carreer in computer science of all things. He was a wonderful person with a great sense of humor and an incredible teacher. i will always remember him with great respect and admiration.
