Condolences to the Family of Arthur Thomas Valicenti, Jr.

2020

My condolences to Vi and the Valicenti family. I am also a Weymouth native and as a former employee at the Weymouth Club I worked with Arthur in the Fitness Department. He was a Fitness Volunteer and was a great person to have on our staff. His background was so impressive and very inspiring. We would have some great discussions about his career and sports in general. It was great to hear about all the amazing athletes he developed throughout his career at Thayer. Most of all Arthur was such a great person and it was an honor to know him. My prayers are with you and the Valicenti family. -Tony and Jacquie Maggio

Mr. Valicenti coached my brother Mike during his years at TA. I remember fondly going to all the games and watching from the bench. (drove Mike crazy) Mike and my sister Clare shared friendship with Dale and Sheri. My condolences to the entire Valicenti family. John Paul McCarthy

Vi, Ron, Cherry, Dale: I know you all understand how much Coach has meant to me through the decades. From both his and my very first day of school at Thayer Academy when he first threw me out of his class when I was acting out, to the caring fatherly talk he had with me at the end of that school day that showed me my how much he really cared; through all the dust, grime and good fun on all the practice fields; and the many hundreds of good times we have had in life together since; Coach was a mentor, a best friend, and for me, a family member. I awoke in the middle of the night recently to get up and pen the following personal sentiment. I stand here with a heavy heart. Yet my heart soars. An emptiness darkens my future. Yet my future is enriched. My spirit may be lessened. Yet is stronger from our bond. I am saddened with your passing. Yet the joy of our friendship lives on. Yes, I stand here gripped with these afflictions. And yet, because of them, I am blessed. Rest in peace my dearest friend. You have earned it.

Mrs. Valicenti, Ronnie, Sherry and Dale, As you all know, Coach had a special place in the hearts of many Thayer alums, myself included. I’m told he was tough but never saw that myself. He loved reminding me about my requests for ‘late passes’ and how he would ‘threaten’ not to write another in hopes of scaring me into being on time.....I looked forward to seeing him at school events none more so than the long awaited, deserved dedication of the Valicenti Rink! My era at TA was so lucky to have been guided by ‘the big 4’, Benelli, Litchfield, Sawyer and Valicenti! They knew everyone’s name and talent. Sending heartfelt affection and condolences to all of you.❤️

On behalf of the University of New Hampshire Athletics Department, we're saddened to hear the news. Art was a phenomenal athlete, but more importantly a good man. He sustained friendships from college that are solid to this day. The Valicenti family is in our thoughts and prayers. Respectfully, The UNH Wildcat Family
