Jim has a profound positive influence in my life. In my early teens, he gave me my first guitar and fostered a love of rock, folk, jazz, and classical music that became a focal point of my identity. Each time we'd meet throughout my teenage years, we'd play guitar together for hours and share new songs we'd learned. We performed together at my sister's wedding, and Jim proclaimed himself a member of the 'Seth-tones' for a set that included Billy Idol's "White Wedding" and a selection of love songs by the Beatles. When I went to university, Jim let me stay on his couch whenever I needed a night away from the dorm rooms, and repeatedly instilled the importance of my studies whenever I had any doubt. Our final jam session was at the rehearsal dinner of my own wedding, Jim played dozens of songs with myself and my Wife's uncle. The sadness of his passing is eased by the incredible gratitude I have for the joy that he radiated into my life and for the loving family in which he played a unique and important role.
