Condolences to the Family of Gerard J. “Gary” Corcoran Jr.

2018

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Using his book as part of high school band is something I've never forgotten (I think I might still have it with old clarinet music). Praying for your peace and comfort in the coming months.

As a young professor in the University of Illinois School of Music, I was fortunate to have Gary assigned to me as my first Teaching Assistant, beginning a long and rewarding association with this talented man. He was a scholar, musician, and dynamic force in changing peoples’ lives. Jean and I have enjoyed and appreciated the friendship that developed during those years, and although separated geographically in our careers, we always knew that we had a friendship that would endure, even if our only physical meetings took place at the Midwest Band Clinic in Chicago each December. We are saddened to know that we will not see Gary and Kenda again in Chicago, but hold them in our hearts as treasured friends. David and Jean Peters

I am so very saddened by the news of Gary’s passing. I had no idea that he was ill. As a fellow college band director, I considered Gary a dear friend! He was a true gentleman of the profession, a dedicated teacher devoted to his students and his institution. I visited Plymouth State several times. My condolences go out to his wife and family.

Some people spend their lives observing others. Gary spent his life doing his best to make a positive difference in the lives of the people around him. Gary's students, peers, friends, and family have countless stories of how he improved their lives. Gary helped makes us better teachers, musicians, students, friends, and human beings. Thanks for being there for us, We miss you. Bob and Sally Lehmenkuler
