Condolences to the Family of Matthew Marvuglio

2017

Back in the early to mid '60's, I was very close friends with Tony, Matt's older brother, and we both attended East Brunswick High School in New Jersey. During that period of time, Tony and I were both insanely obsessed with the guitar, Pete Rosa, our guitar instructor, and Howard Roberts. I spent many evenings in the Marvuglio household, hearing Matt practicing his flute in one room of his parents home, while Tony and me jabbered incestently about guitars, Pete, and H.R. Occasionally Matt would wander in and crack us up with stories of what had happened to him that day in school. I vividly remember his laugh, his smile, his good natured and affable philosophy about life, high school, girls, woodwinds and his sometimes awkward interactions with his classmates; filled with angst and unexpected and unintended results, but always...always funny. Matt was a couple of years younger than Tony and myself, which means I didn't spend much time with him, but I can say this without hesitation; he will always be an influence in my music and in my life. R.I.P. Matthew.

Matt was a great person, a colleague like no one else, and a inmediate friend. How can such a person no longer be among us? I am thinking about him all the time and will never forget him. Walter IASJ (International Association of Schools of Jazz) Royal Conservatory, The Hague, The Netherlands

A human being transcends for the greatness of their acts and so their soul never dies. Matt after those few, but great years of your life in which we had the opportunity to meet you, having you as a true friend, sharing your career and private life with us, now you became a star that will be light up our heart forever. We always will remember you as a human being with a deep love for your profession, family and friends, also a guide for anyone who approached you, always ready to help and sharing your wisdom. With a lot of love our deepest condolences to the Marvuglio's Family and our Dear friend Mia. God bless you all

I came to know Matt through my parents and Mia, the Cape Cod - Minnesota connection. I met him only once in person, but as a testament to his kindness and generosity, Matt helped me to procure the instrument of my life, a beautiful Warwick six string fretless, signed by the great Berklee bassist Steve Bailey. Matt managed to make it happen while traveling the world, and I am forever grateful. The fact that he worked so hard for a friend of a friend speaks volumes to his character. I celebrate his life, and my condolences to Mia, his family, and all who knew and were touched by this great man.

Dear MIa and Family, There are no words for the loss of Matt but we do know that a man who was capable of deep loving kindness and was a generous giving spirit, will experience only greater joy in the realm where he enjoys his expanded self. For those left behind, we can only live a life inspired by soul which remains ever present. I knew Matt very briefly but I saw the love that was ever oresent in your blessed family and marriage! Love like this never dies...but during this brief separation I wish the family peace, serenity and true connection to the light.

Greetings, My most heartfelt condolences to Matt's family. I grew up in East Brunswick NJ on Diamond Court around the corner from the Marvuglio family. In high school I was always amazed at his talent, it seemed all he needed to do was pick up an instrument and he could make it sing. Even back then he was transposing music and composing arrangements for the music teachers. The world will be a quieter, more somber place for his loss, but I am sure there is one majestic band where he is now.

Sincere and heartfelt condolences from Robin Blakeman in Brighton, England... I knew Matt in my Berklee days back in the early 1970s and have been in touch after meeting up with him at the Panama Jazz Festival a few years ago, about the possibility of completing a Berklee degree online (even at my age, 70). I greatly admired Matt's bass flute playing on the album of Jobim's music with Phil Wilson. RIP, Matt §
