Condolences to the Family of Jakob Wohn

2017

I first met Jake in Peru and roomed together for awhile. He was always fun to be with, opinionated and all. I have photos of us climbing El Misti, the largest volcano in the area. His memories always bring a smile.

My heartfelt condolences to his friends and family. I first met Jake when I was working at Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory’s satellite tracking station in Las Cruces, NM. At the time, Jake was working for Dearborn Observatory on an adjacent property. We became instant friends there and later, after relocating to Massachusetts, we shared apartments in Boston and Belmont. He was always eager to help out friends in need. After I married and had children, Jake would come visit us almost every weekend and help with our large vegetable garden, and he also helped me build a deck and screened porch attached to our Sudbury, MA home. Our two young children always looked forward to his visits and the treats he would bring them. He became their unofficial godfather. Jake was a terrific worker, always wanting to see a job through to a successful completion. He was a true friend, and we will sorely miss his wit and wonderful stories about his worldly adventures and the good times we shared. May he forever rest in peace.

Jake and I worked together for many years at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory on the satellite tracking program. He was a fine engineer and a wonderful team member. We had lots of work in the field and he was always ready to go. Most of all, he was gentlemen through thick and thin. It was a please knowing him and an honor to work with him.
