William M. “Bill” Lapsley

 

William M. “Bill” Lapsley of Braintree, formerly of Quincy, died September 20, 2018, surrounded by the family he cherished. The beloved husband of 63 years of Shirley (Santee) Lapsley of Braintree. Cherished father of William Lapsley and his wife Anna of Plymouth, James Lapsley of Dover, NH, David Lapsley and his wife Erin of Quincy and Katherine Ell and her husband Robert of Braintree. Brother of Mary Groden of Franklin, Catherine and James Riley, and Robert and Kathy Lapsley all of Dedham, and the late Sr. Thomas Marie Lapsley, SSND, Noreen Conniff, Thomas Lapsley, Frances MacDonald, Dorothea McGrath and James Lapsley, he is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Will, Deirdre, and Jack Lapsley, Jennifer and Jessica Lapsley, Ava and Ronan Lapsley, and Adrienne and Annaliese Ell, as well as 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Bill grew up in a large Irish family in Mission Hill, where he made lifelong friends, developed a passion for baseball, and established his Catholic faith.  After completing Mission Grammar School, he left home to attend the seminary at St. Mary’s College in North East, PA, though he stayed connected to the Mission Church throughout his life.  He then served in the United States Marine Corp. and was a proud veteran of the Korean War. Bill worked for White Fuel in South Boston for 30 years, eventually retiring to Cape Cod where he spent many years enjoying time with family and friends. The foundation of his life was his family and his faith, the cornerstones of all that was truly important to him. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. Although his family is heartbroken at his loss, they are grateful for all the blessings he brought into their lives. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Agatha’s Church, Milton at 10:30 AM.

Private burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
