Miriam Jeanne Delaney

Miriam Jeanne (Lappin) Delaney, a longtime resident of Hingham, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Pat Roche Hospice Home, on Monday December 24, she was 96.

Born in Portland, Maine she was the daughter of the late James B. Lappin and Marion H. (Whitcomb).  Later the family moved to Auburn, Maine, and relocated once more to Newton, Massachusetts.  Miriam was a 1940 graduate of Newton High School.  She worked for many years as an Adjustor for the Traveler’s Insurance Company in Boston.  Miriam enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, traveling, ballroom dancing, and was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.  She was a cross-country skier and enjoyed this activity into her 90’s.  Miriam was a member of the Linden Ponds Investment Club, Hingham Garden Club, and the Massachusetts Cross Country Ski Club.

Miriam was the beloved wife of the late Edmund M. Delaney; devoted mother of Richard M. Delaney of Ocean View DE, Stephen Delaney and his wife Lucille of North Carver, Christopher E. Delaney and his wife Pamela of East Dennis, William Delaney and his wife Barbara of Bellingham, Kathleen Landry and her husband Robert of Foxboro, and the late Philip A. Delaney; cherished grandmother of Beth Moran and her husband  Kip of Southampton PA, Erin Shannon and her husband Greg of Branchburg NJ, Tara Fisher and her husband Dennis of Plymouth, Lisa Chernin and her husband Peter of New York City, Ryan Delaney of Hermosa Beach CA, Sarah Frantzreb and her husband Justin of New York City, Colin Delaney of Waltham, Kelly Farese and her husband Pete of Fort Hood TX, Jason Delaney and his wife Lisa of Colorado Springs CO, Thomas Delaney of Northbridge, Blair Landry of Foxboro, Briana Landry of Somerville, Evan Landry his wife Emilee of Canton MA; and proud great-grandmother of Emily, Megan, Sean, Jude, Lane, Emerson, Duke, Maxton, Emma, and two more who are on their way. 

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Monday from 9-10 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM, with a memorial service beginning at 10 o’clock.  Inurnment will follow the service at High Street Cemetery.
