Mary Patricia (Donoghue) O’Donnell

Mary Patricia (Donoghue) O’Donnell, age 80, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Born March 3, 1944 in Boston, she was the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Cunnane) Donoghue.  Mary was raised in the Oak Square neighborhood of Brighton where she graduated from Presentation Academy with the Class of 1961. She went on to attend Boston Clerical School and Bentley College resulting in a career that spanned over 4 decades culminating in the role as Office Manager of multiple Law firms.

Mary married her beloved husband, Billy, Jr., on September 30, 1967.  The couple initially made their home in Roslindale, later moving to West Roxbury and then back to Roslindale.  In the spring of 1971, they purchased a cottage in the GunRock neighborhood of Hull enjoying summers with their family and extended families along the ocean. Upon retirement in 1997, Mary and Billy moved to GunRock full time.

Mary was deeply involved in the recovery community for over 40-years helping hundreds of individuals and families navigate their path through addiction.  She also served as a communion celebrant at St John Chrysostom in West Roxbury. Following in her father’s footsteps, Mary volunteered for the Saint Vincent DePaul Society in Hull. Recently she found traveling with her posse and the Hull Garden Club. Mary enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, offering support and encouragement to everyone she loved.

Mary is survived by her husband William (Billy) O’Donnell, her children Tara Travis and her husband, Joseph, of Saco, Maine; Jeffrey O’Donnell and his wife, Anne, of Walpole; and Kevin O’Donnell and his wife, Kimberly, of Mountainside, NJ; and son -in – law Frank Mawn of Newton. Her legacy also lives on in her grandchildren Aislinn, McKenna, Emily, Katama, Shane, and Julia. She is also survived by her brothers John Donoghue and his wife Rosemary of Naples, Florida and James Donoghue and his wife Denise of Pocassett, and many nieces and nephews. Mary is predeceased by her parents John and Ellen Donoghue of Brighton, her sisters Helen (Frannie) Niland of Walpole, and Joan and Robert Schraven of Westboro, her niece and second daughter Kristen Schraven Mawn, and nephew Stephen Niland of Dennis.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, March 25th 4-8PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH (40 Sea Street).   A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 26th at 10:30AM at St. Ann’s , Hull (208 Samoset Ave). Interment will take place privately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date.
