Mary L. (Walsh) Greene

Mary L. (Walsh) Greene, of Hull, Massachusetts, formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully at the Residence of Penniman Hill in Hingham, with her husband by her side on November 4, 2022, after a long battle with dementia.

Born in Boston on June 14, 1949, she was the daughter of the late James and Patricia (Ryan) Walsh.  Mary was raised in Dorchester, attended local schools, and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Roxbury.  In addition to raising her family and caring for her grandchildren, she enjoyed working retail sales for Talbots. She loved her work and the relationships she built throughout the years.

Mary was the beloved wife of Paul J. Greene of Hull with whom she shared 49 years of marriage.  She was the devoted mother of James P. Greene and his wife Donna of Norwell and Suzanne Darling and her husband Kevin of Hull. Mary was the loving Nana of Emma, Abigail, Sophie and Madelyn Greene, and Emilia Darling.  She was the dear sister of James Walsh and his late wife Mary of Weymouth, Francis Walsh and his wife Gale of Hull, and Kathleen Richmond and her husband Donald of Hull. Mary was preceded in death by her siblings:  Patricia Travers, Richard, and Stephen Walsh.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friendship meant everything to Mary, she filled her home with warmth and kindness. She loved hosting Walsh Family holidays, vacationing in Cape Cod and Mexico with the Greene family and family parties in Plymouth. Mary was her children’s greatest advocate, teaching them the values of integrity, loyalty, and compassion and guiding them with the confidence necessary to pursue their successful careers and their own loving families. She was overjoyed when she became a grandmother, and her favorite people called her Nana.  When Mary wasn’t with her family she enjoyed laughing with friends, shopping, walking the beach, and sipping tea or the occasional glass of chardonnay.  Mary loved to travel with friends and family and especially loved their annual trip to Aruba. Mary was selfless, thoughtful, and caring, the glue that held her family together.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2022, prior to the Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Hull at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow.
