Marion E. “Mikey” Harris

Private Service

In Loving Memory of

Marion E. “Mikey” Harris

November 17, 1923 – April 13, 2018

Our dear mother, aunt and nana went to be with the Lord on April 13 after a brief illness.

Marion was the seventh of nine loud, boisterous, and funny children born to Charles and Catherine (Walters) Ruhl of Dorchester, Massachusetts.

The story goes that after four consecutive girls, Mr. Ruhl told his pregnant wife, “I don’t care what comes out this time, Kate, I’m naming it Mike!” Thus was born the lifelong nickname of “Mikey.”

As a teenager, she enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. She later married the love of her life – a handsome Navy veteran named Harold Harris. They would share a wonderful life together, hosting thousands of barbecues and teaching hundreds of nieces and nephews to swim at the pool at Peter Road, until Harold passed on in 1993.

Mikey was the last survivor among her siblings, and as she approached the gates we know her oldest sister Izzy was yelling “What took you so long?” She is once again together with them all, and with her beloved Harry.

She is survived by two children, Michael Harris (Wendy) of Biddeford, Maine and Jo Anne Underhill (Jonathan) of Hanover, Massachusetts, four grandchildren, Katherine Giroux (Colby) and Daniel Harris of Portland, Maine, and Matthew Underhill and Elizabeth Underhill of Hanover, Massachusetts, and one great-granddaughter, the spectacular Miss Vada Giroux of Portland, Maine.

Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

She has requested no visiting hours or funeral, with a simple private burial.

We will never forget you, Mikey. Forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to her favorite charity The Salvation Army.
