Janet (Brady)(Burnett) Brady, an angel on earth, unexpectedly received her wings to heaven on April 3, 2024 at 81 years of age.  Janet was raised in Roslindale where she graduated from Roslindale High School.  She then lived and raised her children in Braintree.  Weymouth is where she had lived her last 30 years.

She was the daughter of the late John and Martha (MacAloney) Brady.

Janet is survived by her children Theresa (Burnett) Szymczuk and son-in-law, Dana; John Burnett and daughter-in-law, Christy; Peter Burnett and daughter-in-law, Deanna.  She is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Janet was devoted to her family making every one of them feel special and loved unconditionally.

Janet was the final Brady sibling to pass and was the matriarch of her immediate family, as well as her nieces and nephews and their families.  She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy (Brady) Cronin and Catherine (Brady) Boudreau and her brothers Jack Brady and Frank Brady.

She was Mother to many and Grandma Janet to all.  It would be tough to find a kinder and more caring person.  Our family’s role model of how to be a loving parent, honest human, worker with strong ethics, and education advocate.

Janet was a long time, grateful member and supporter of The Worldwide Fellowship of Al-Anon Family Groups.

Janet’s first job as a teenager was at Boschetto Bakery in Roslindale where she would return to work again when Theresa and John went off to school.  After Peter was born, she was home again until he went to school and she went to work at Angelo’s Bakery in Holbrook.  Janet was an avid baker and cake decorator.  In addition to making cakes for every family event, she made a number of elaborate cakes for friends and family weddings.

Janet was fiercely independent and believed if you wanted to achieve something, you could.  She practiced what she preached attending Quincy College later in life and earning her Associate in Science in June 1998, Summa Cum Laude at the age of 55.

Janet was an extremely hard worker and spent some time as a Tax Return Preparer at H&R Block and an Administrative Assistant and Permission Editor for Cartoon Features Syndicate.  Janet would then work at Massachusetts Electric as a Customer Service Representative and then a T&D Clerk in the Engineering Department until she retired.  She loved retirement, but wasn’t ready to do “nothing” every day.  Having taught Sunday School when her children were young, she found the perfect part-time job as the Religious Education Director at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Weymouth.

While Janet had slowed down the last couple of years, she was happy to rehome her son Peter’s older dog, Calvin.  He brought her much joy, companionship and happiness for a year until he travelled over the rainbow bridge in November.

Janet loved to camp and would pack up her tent, Coleman stove and kids and head to New Hampshire, Maine or Horseneck Beach.  In the early 1980s, Janet, along with 30+ of her closest friends and families found their “forever camp site” known as “The Barn” next to “The Marsh” in Marshfield, MA.  This amazing group would go on to camp there for the next 30 years watching their children grow and come back to The Barn with their children.  If you knew Janet, you knew that this became her most treasured and favorite place on earth, second only to her condo.  Some years ago, the property was put on the market and it was feared the peace and charm of this treasure might be lost.  However, much to everyone’s relief, The James P Harrington Organization took over The Barn and surrounding property and it continues to be a place for well-being and healing.  There is still restoration work to be done to this gem and the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Janet’s memory to James P Harrington Organization, 76 Ferry Hill Road, Marshfield, MA 02050.

There is also a drop-down menu on their site with Janet’s name for online donations https://jphcommunity.org/donate

Please join us for a Celebration of Life in memory of Janet on Saturday, May 25, 2024 @ 11am.  The service will be at Venus II, 277 Ocean Street, Marshfield, MA 02050.
