James Norman Butler

James Norman Butler, Millis, MA – On March 20, 2024 we unexpectedly lost a wonderful man.

Jim was born on May 26, 1959 in Weymouth, MA, the son of George and Barbara (Murphy) Butler.

Jim spent his childhood in Weymouth MA and Willingboro N.J. and in later years moved to Norfolk MA where he met Mary and they immediately fell in love.  Jim and Mary were together for more than 28 wonderful years and were married in 2000. They were each other’s best friend and companion in addition to being husband and wife.

Jim was a hard worker his whole life.  He was an easy going, patient, kind, thoughtful, good man.  Jim’s hobbies included antiquing, gardening, woodworking, jig saw puzzles, taking care of his fish, his chickens and his absolute favorite of all – playing with Smokey the Cat.  Jim loved the good old days, history, studying the weather, nature and camping in Maine.  He was also very excited to be going to see the total eclipse in April.  Sadly he won’t be able to do that now.

Jim remembered everything – he had an amazing memory and loved to reminisce.  Some of Jim’s favorite memories were from his time in the Explorers.  Jim really enjoyed traveling about the country exploring, mountain climbing, sleeping under the stars, eating out of a tin can and trying to stay out of trouble.

Upholding traditions and family values was very important to Jim.  He dedicated himself to making sure his wife, his home, his family and of course Smokey the Cat were all well taken care of.  I’m not sure how I am going to get along without him.

Jimmy (as he was called by many) had a wonderful heart and will be terribly missed by his mother Barbara, his brothers David, Steven, George and Bob and his sisters Debbie Gasperi, Carol Geoffrion and Patty Butler along with all of his brothers and sisters wives and husbands.

Jim also leaves behind a stepson Mike and his wife Kendra, many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncle, friends, chickens, fish and Smokey the Cat all of whom will miss him dearly.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Albert the Great Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s name may be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284 or MSPCA, 350 S. Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
