James A. Damery

Damery, James A. of Weymouth, died March 26, 2015.

Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954-1956. He joined the IBPAT in 1952 which he was initiated into Local Union # 402 (East Boston) and then to Local # 1138, which made him a union member for 59 years. He was elected Business representative for District Council # 35 in 1968. In 1970, Jim was elected Secretary/Treasurer of District, # 35. He was a graduate from the Harvard University Trade program in 1982. In 1984, he joined the International Union Staff as General Representative for the 3rd District and was elected as General Vice President for organizing by the delegates in 1994. Jim also served as President of the Boston Building Trades council, Chairman of the Board for Adjustments of Jurisdictional disputes for the greater Boston area. He was Vice President of the Massachusetts State AFL-CIO executive board member of the construction trades council, secretary-treasurer of the Massachusetts State Conference of painter’s and a member of the Governor’s Committee on neighborhood revitalization.

Beloved husband of Ruth (Sprague) Damery. Loving father of Denise Dean and her husband, Barry, Virginia  Lewis and her husband, Steven, all of Weymouth and James Damery and his wife, Amy, of Plympton. Brother of Rita Minton of Stoughton, and the late Mary Meagher, Lillian Cottor, Gertrude Flanagan, John Damery and William Damery. Grandfather of Matthew, Barry, Jr, Nicollette, Amanda, Ariel, and Jacquelyn. Great Grandfather of Benjamin. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 8:30 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
