McCahill, Dorothy G. (Gannon) of Hingham, passed away unexpectedly June 21, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born and raised in Bayside, New York.  She attended Katharine Gibbs School and worked for McGraw Hill Publishing in New York City.  In August 1953 she married the love of her life, William J. McCahill. They raised their seven children in Somerville, NJ and later Scituate, MA.   Married for 63 years, they were longtime members of Hatherly Country Club in Scituate, MA and Bayou Club in Largo, FL.  Dorothy was dedicated to her family, and they were the cornerstone of her life.

She was the cherished mother of Nancy (John) Giamattei of Salem, MA, Susan (Paul) Kingston of Hingham, MA, Edward (Cindy) McCahill of Woodinville, WA, Kevin (Cindy) McCahill of Bedford, NH, Jean (Jay) Driscoll of Hingham, MA, Carolyn (Bryan) McKigney of Pleasantville, NY and Marjorie (Paul) Mahoney of Norwell, MA. She will also be greatly missed by her 24 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her dear sister Joan Johnson of Southbury, CT, sister-in-law Marie Tintera of Largo, FL, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy had a heart of gold and was thoughtful, kind and generous. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday, June 25th from 4-7pm at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham, MA. A brief visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 26 from 8:30-9:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am in the Church of the Resurrection, 1057 Main St., Hingham, MA.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Dorothy’s memory to either Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 or Hope Lodge Boston, 125 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130
