Clare Marie Murray

Clare Marie Murray, formerly of South Boston and Chatham, MA, died peacefully on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Linden Ponds in Hingham, MA. She was 90.

Born on August 31, 1932, Clare was the daughter of the late Dr. George A. and Barbara (Fitzpatrick) Murray of 515 Broadway, South Boston.

Clare received her teaching degree from Boston State College and spent the next 42 years teaching Kindergarten students throughout the Boston area.  She loved her job and the thousands of children and families she touched along the way. Ms. Murray was affectionately greeted by former students, young and old, wherever she went for the rest of her life!

Clare was a lifelong learner and continued to take adult education classes at UMass and at Linden Ponds.  She also loved to travel and experience new places.

As a young woman, Clare joined the Clipped Wings Ski Club and spent several winters skiing in North Conway, NH, during which time she developed many lifelong friendships and treasured memories.

After her retirement in 1994, Clare volunteered as a docent at The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, ushered regularly at The Wang Theater and spent as much time as possible entertaining family and friends at her place in Chatham.

Clare always had time for anyone who needed her help.  Welcoming and kind, she was especially loved by her large, extended family, her beloved cousins, and devoted nieces and nephew.  We will fondly remember the many St. Patrick’s Day parties held at Clare’s home bringing together generations of family for joy filled reunions!

Clare was predeceased by her brother, George A. Murray and his wife, Trudy Rollins Murray.  Surviving nieces and nephews include Barbara C. Murray of CA, Mary Scott (Dennis) Grimaldi of CT, Louise (Jack) Marshall of CA, Gigi (Jim) Longstreth of IN, Holly (Hank) LeMeur of PA, George A. Murray of CA, and Rachel Murray Yanke of CA, as well as seventeen great nieces and nephews and eight great, great ones!

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, May 11, 2023, 4-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Friday, May 12, 2023, prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10 AM.
