Charles M. O’Brien

O’Brien, Charles M. of Quincy, died February 18, 2024.

Charlie adored his family and loved spending time all together. His faith was very important to him and he enjoyed reading, puttering in his garden, genealogy, and baking apple pies.  He proudly served in the United States Navy and worked as a lifelong teacher for Boston Public Schools, retiring in 1998 as a school administrator. Charlie was a kind, honest, and sincere man who had a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Beloved husband of 63 years to Elfrieda (Voelkel) O’Brien of Quincy. Cherished father of Karen O’Brien and husband Kevin Hoar of Hull, Kevin O’Brien and his wife Mary (Severin) of Amherst, Steven O’Brien and his wife Tricia (Costello) of South Boston, and the late Sean O’Brien and his surviving wife Eleana (Lombardi) of Stoneham. Loving brother of the late Richard L. O’Brien and his surviving wife Nancy (Lee) of Hull. Devoted Papa of Matthew Scannell, Kathleen Frazier and her husband Brandon, Devon O’Brien, Cory O’Brien, Callie O’Brien, Colbie O’Brien and great papa of Teddy and Jack Frazier.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, February 22nd from 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Friday, February 23rd prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston. In lieu of flowers, Charlie requested donations be made to Cardinal Cushing Centers, Attn: Memorial/Tribute Program, 405 Washington St., Hanover, MA 02339 in memory of Charles M O’Brien.
