Jean Cain of Boston, formerly of Hingham died peacefully in her sleep on January 21, 2023. Born on May 17, 1928  in Hollywood CA, she was not only a wonderful wife, mother, sister,  grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend, she was a well-known artist whose paintings and prints of Hingham and Boston scenery hang on walls of businesses and homes all over the United States including at the MA State House where her original painting of the front of the building greet visitors on a daily basis. She has traveled and painted throughout United States and overseas and prints of her paintings have welcomed visitors at Logan Airport.

After moving to Chicago, IL and Knoxville TN, Jean proudly attended Syracuse University. She graduated in 1950 with a degree in fashion design and moved to New York City where she met her late husband Jess Cain whom she married on July 24, 1954.

In 1957 they moved to Hingham with their growing family. In the 60’s she became proud part owner of the Bare Cove Art Gallery with 4 of her dearest friends Dianne Gallagher, Anne Garton, Suzie Packer, and Yvonne Trilsch along with their office manager the late Ann Barry.

After moving to Boston in the early 1980s she spent a lot of her time at her art studio in South Boston.  She would enjoy the close to 4 mile walk from her condo and using her time to envision what her next painting of Boston scenery might just be. She continued to paint into her 90s.

Jean is survived by her daughter Amy Cain of Cambridge, and her sons Jesse of Concord NH, Michael and his wife Cheryl of Weymouth, and Kevin and his wife Claire of Vineyard Haven. Jean was also survived (aka Sunny as she was affectionally known) by her grandchildren Jarod and his wife Danielle, Trevor and his wife Meaghan, and Corey and his wife Caleigh, five great grandchildren Vera, Tristin, Tre, Mya, and Maci, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was one of four beautiful sisters, Suzanne Shaw of Nashville TN and the late Lois Sandhofer of Baltimore MD and the late Janet Mclaughlin of Memphis TN.

The family would also like to give appreciation to her care givers from Right at Home of Newton, MA as well as Care Dimensions.
