Jo Anne B. Vaughan

Vaughan, Jo Anne (Bell) of Hingham, died suddenly September 14, 2017. She was 85 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Charles W. Vaughan for 57 years.

Jo Anne grew up in the Cleveland area of Ohio.  She attended Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University where she received a Bachelor’s degree, along with becoming a Registered Nurse.  While attending college she met the love of her life, Dr. Charles W. Vaughan.  After graduating, Jo Anne went on to work as a nurse in Cleveland and to marry Charles.  They moved to Boston, later to Canton, and then to Milton Massachusetts where they raised their four daughters, Kim, Laura, Lea and Amy. During her life, Jo Anne worked as a nurse in various positions from the Emergency room to a school nurse to a psych hospital.  She also was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary at the University Hospital, and eventually became president of the organization.  In her later years, Jo Anne and her husband Charles moved to the Linden Ponds Community in Hingham, MA. At Linden Ponds she volunteered her time as a greeter for newcomers. She also became a committed and active member of the Linden Ponds bible study group.  Jo Anne loved the theatre, especially musicals. She loved to travel, and throughout her life managed to see most of Europe. She spent her winters with her husband in St. Martin, along with visiting many other Islands and nearby countries. She was an amazing cook; her Chicken Divan and Lobster Newburg were unsurpassable in flavor and quality. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Loving mother of Kimberly King and her husband Edward of Hingham, Laura Vaughan and her companion Paul Andonian of New Bedford, Lea Eliot and her husband Frederick Scott of Newbury and Amy Cohen and her husband Lawrence of Weston, Connecticut.  Devoted grandmother of Charles King, Nicholas and Elizabeth Eliot and Henry and Abigail Cohen.  Caring sister of Sally Protiva and her husband Norman of Alpharetta, Georgia.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jo Anne’s family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the staff at Linden Ponds and to Lisa Osborne’s team of caregivers that have cared for her for the past few years. They cannot thank you enough.

Service and celebration of Jo Anne Vaughan’s life will be held on October 20, 2017 at 1:00 in the Derby Clubhouse at Linden Ponds, Linden Ponds Way, Hingham, MA 02043.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jo Anne may be made to the Linden Ponds Student Scholarship Fund at Linden Ponds, 203 Linden Ponds Way, Hingham, MA 02043.
