Alfred F. Messina

Alfred F. Messina, 89 of Plymouth (formerly of South Boston), died peacefully in his sleep on April 25.

Al was a decorated World War II Navy veteran and was aboard the USS Missouri during the signing of the Treaty of Peace with Japan. Al played semi pro football with the South Boston Chippewas and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in South Boston.

Husband of 28 years to Donna (Feeney) Messina, and the late Margaret E. (McHale) Messina. 

Cherished father of Lauretta (Messina) and William O’Brien of Plymouth, Marie (Messina) Auriemma of South Weymouth and her companion, Dennis Medeiros of Templeton, the late Paul Messina,  Lawrence and Lorraine Feeney of Abington, Donna Feeney of Wareham, JoAnne (Messina) and Peter Royal of Abington and Lisa Messina of South Weymouth. Devoted grandfather of  Sean O’Brien of Somerset and William O’Brien of Wareham, Jessica Auriemma of Charlestown and Adam Auriemma of Miami Beach, Florida, Joseph Messina and Samantha Messina of Brookline, New Hampshire, Jillian Feeney and Jennifer Feeney of Abington, Eryk R Grassie of Bourne, Bryan Grassie and Felicia Grassie of Wareham, Jake Royal and Zachary Royal of Abington and many great grandchildren. Loving brother of  Lauretta Gill of Quincy, Bernadette Manning of South Boston. and the late Ida Messina and Harry Messina. Al is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 3-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).

Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
