Sue and PJ McGeogheganJohn Downey was a great man. Like few, he could negotiate firmly with a smile on his face. He accomplished much as the Met Union President because he was a true gentleman. John helped me tremendously when I had trouble with problem bosses. I have him to thank for my enjoyable, rewarding, and pride filled career. RIP and thank you John!

Francis and Marie RocheSo sorry to hear of John’s passing. I remember him well and with fondness. He was a true Gentleman, especially in his role as Metro Police Union President. I spent many hours talking to him during my time at headquarters. He was affable and a pleasure to engage in conversation. As Union President, he consistently fought for the rights of the membership and always sought the middle ground between those rights and the needs of department. Many an officer owes his job to John’s efforts. He was a well respected member of the department and a very good man. May he Rest In Peace.
