I was a Graduate student with Nick at Syracuse University, and remember him well - his sense of humor and big laugh, the twinkle in his eyes...! I saw him a few times over the years at Geology meetings and always enjoyed reconnecting. I'm so sorry to know that he has passed away.
Jane EgglestonAs a former student of Dr. Genes some 25 years back - I want to say that he had a lasting impact on me. He was one of the professors which touched my spirit with his perspective on learning and on life. I also had the pleasure of working for him for a few semesters in the Geology Department. This opportunity gave me much time to engage in dicussions with Dr. Genes. He was so down to earth. He made me [and possibly every student] feel like a friend. I learned from him about Geology - but more importantly - I learned from him about attitude, and the power of positive energy. It was an honor to be in his class. It was an honor to engage in a philosophical discussion with him. My time in his class and working for him in the Geology Department was some of the best time I had at U Mass. He was always positive, brilliant and an excellent educator. I wish he was still around so that I could thank him again for his valuable contribution to my education, career, and life philosophy.
