Basil's passing is a great loss. A kind and gentle man, he touched the lives of 1000s of students and athletes who's lives were enhanced by his presence. And none of us hoop junkies will ever forget winning the boys state title. Then I watched him assist our mutual friend John Levangie as the Cohasset girls won the state basketball title. He did so much for so many and I will miss him.

AnneMarie : So sorry to learn of your dads passing. I knew him as a very spirited and formidable basketball coach. I have refereed several of his games while he was at Sharon and later at BC High and Cohasset. He was a true gentleman and a class act. They don't make them like him any more. Prayers to you and the family. Tom Giblin

Mr. Cronin was my math teacher as well as the coach of the Girls Tennis Team. He let me play even though I wasn't the strongest player and was my single ally at the start of practice/matches in that we seemed the only 2 in the group to be putting on sun screen! He was a great teacher and coach (plus 1991 was an exciting year for SHS basketball)! Being a teacher is such an impactful job as you reach so many young people, but being a high school math teacher could make it hard to be popular. He managed to both do his job very well and be respected and liked by his students. RIP.

The Kellehers and Cronins had many summer clambakes and barbeques at 205 Otis Street. On one special occasion it was announced that my cousin Basil was bringing his new girl to the party. As a small child I heard the adults wondering if Basil could possibly find a woman as wonderful as he was. And then Anne walked down the steps to the lower yard with Basil. In my eyes she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen and when she turned and smiled at me, I felt he could not have picked a lovelier woman to be his bride. There were more summer parties over the years. I watched Basil and Anne’s family grow first with Mary Francis, then Buzzie, Anne Marie and finally Tim. You were a treasure to our family Basil and you will be missed. May you rest in peace with the Risen Lord.

Mr. Cronin was one of my all time favorite teachers (I think I had him sophomore or junior year which would have been ‘95 or ‘96) & math was my least favorite/most challenging subject. But, I loved going to his class because I loved him. Wishing his family sympathy. Rest In Peace, Mr. Cronin Lisa Desberg SHS 1997

My heart breaks to hear of the passing of my very favorite teacher ever. Mr. Cronin was my math teacher all the way back in 1970. I never forgot him and wrote many years later to let him know. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

My fondest memory was when Basil, my dad (Bob) and Joe Casey drove to my alma mater Syracuse University for the NCAA tournament. It was great having beers with him, my dad and Joe; discussing Hockomock League basketball and Championship Basketball Camp stories. My thoughts are with the entire Cronin family on this sad day.

Basil Cronin was a really good man. I had him for Algebra II in 1981. He gave me confidence, and encouraged me to tutor a Vietnamese refugee, which was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life to that point. I am thankful to have known him. To a life well lived.

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Basil in the math department at Sharon high school starting in 1984. I had so much respect for him as my coordinator! HR will truly be missed. My condolences and prayers are with the family.

Basil will be remembered as the rock who became the man of the house at a very young age after the premature passing of my grandfather in 1954. Also and without fear of contradiction my family would not have enjoyed our slice of heaven on Farrington Road in East Dennis if not for the steady hand of Basil as the family’s patriarch. For this and much more we will always be in his debt. I had the pleasure of attending a prayer meeting at St Paul Church in Hingham (Our family helped build it in 1877 and had the church’s first Sexton) for 6 years with Basil & Anne. He was a man of deep faith and conviction. I have zero doubt where he is now residing as he well understood the sacrifice made at Calvary’s Cross where our Savior paid a debt we could not repay on our own. On a lighter note Basil was on St Paul’s very first softball team on which I have been playing for the past 6 years. The playoff’s start tonight and I will be doing everything in my power to bring home the championship in Basil’s honor. My thoughts and prayers go out to my Aunt Anne, cousins Mary Frances, Buzz (Basil lll), Anne Marie and Tim. My condolences also go out to our entire family that is mourning the loss of as fine a man as you could ever hope to know. Our loss is Heaven’s gain where there will be a great reunion of loved ones who have fallen asleep in the Lord. Romans 10:9 New King James Version (NKJV) 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. John 3:16 New International Version (NIV) 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
