Condolences to the Family of Sambit Bastia

2018

I am so very sad to see that Sam has passed on. I have known him since 11th grade and he wrote to me in November 2017 to tell me he was sick and afraid. I have a 6-year-old girl and my heart breaks for you and your children. He was a dear friend and a complicated, good person. The world feels a bit smaller today after Googling him yesterday only to find this obituary.

My wife Joyce and I are so sorry for your loss. I met Sam at my second job out of college, and I will always remember his direct and self deprecating sense of humor. He was a great friend for many years. He will be missed. -Mads

It is shockingly sad to hear about Sam's death. My great sympathies and condolences to his family. I knew Sam from his valuable contributions to the growth of MassChallenge, where we both sat on it advisory board for several years together. A few impressions of Sam are lasting: smiling and laughing was Sam's default affect; he had great responsibility at Verizon and must have been great at his job there, yet he never used that status to falsely elevate himself or his views; Sam was always humble and self-deprecating, disarming in his modesty, which, of course made him even more effective; he embodied the time-honored advice that one makes friends by being a friend. Sam was a great friend and we'll all miss him greatly.

I owe a lot to Sam. He gave me the opportunity to be on his team and to work with very talented individuals. But I knew Sam years before I joined his team. Sam, Tunde and Jose where my first internal clients back when the healthcare vertical was a key focus and I was always impressed with his ability to instill an entrepreneurial spirt to those around him. His high energy, deep knowledge of business and positive thinking made me say to myself back then – I want to work for that guy. And I did. Thank you Sam, you will be one of those people that made a positive impact on my life and career and that is something I will never forget. I will continue to have you in my prayers.

Sam brought so much joy to everyone around him, he was full of energy and vitality. He loved Kori and his kids, he was so proud of them! He truly cared about people, I saw over and over in the years working for him, just pure generosity! He had a fantastic sense of humor and he was brilliant at his work. He had a big big heart and he certainly won a piece of everyone's around him. He taught me a lot, as boss, as mentor, as a friend. I will be eternally grateful to him for believing in me and all the opportunities. It's a big loss, he leaves a big hole in all of us, he'll be missed by many.

My sincere condolences to Korlynne, Tyler and Addisyn and all who knew Sam. I had the great pleasure of working with Sam for several years and will never forget his kind, sensitive personality. He was a great asset to the team and when we talked we always talked about the family. He often times would kid about giving me Tyler, as I thought Tyler was the cutest young man. I know he loved and was proud of his family and I’m sure that was one of his greatest pleasures. Sam was called to leave this world too soon in our human minds and we are called to adjust to this loss, but we need to be grateful that he suffers no more. He is missed by all who knew him. Fly high good man.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Sam during his tenure on the Hewitts Landing board, although our relationship soon transcended the board and I viewed him, and Kori, as real friends I could share my thoughts with. Sam was such a bright light - so intelligent, caring, and thoughtful, with a brilliant sense of humor. Dedicated to his job, his wife, his community, and his family, Sam became a very special person to me and my husband Joe. I so respected his judgment and his unique perspective, the way he could cut through the fog and get to the heart of an issue with crystal clarity and always with kindness and dignity. I will miss Sam so much but am so glad to know his beloved family now as well, who meant the world to him, and who supported him so gracefully through this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

Sam was such an incredible person who made an impact on so many lives. Either through action or advice he always made a difference. While he could be serious at times he was usually incredibly funny and made us all laugh. He was also my friend, and he will be missed. My condolences to his family. I wish them the best

Dear family of Sam, My hear is broken over hearing of the passing of Sam this morning. While I did not know Sam very well personally, I was very grateful for his efforts on our board at Hewitt Landing. I cannot imagine your grief at the loss of your young father brother husband and friend. I lost my dad at this time last year and I am praying for your hearts to be peaceful with good memories of him during this holiday season. I will be thinking of you all and praying for comfort for all of you Sincerely, Maria and David Olaughlin 125 HMS Stayner Drive

We are simply devastated to hear of the loss of Sam, our dear friend Kori’s husband and Tyler and Addison’s beloved father. We just ran into them not to long ago at Logan, as they were off on another fun filled family adventure, I believe Disneyworld. For his children and his wife, and I imagine his friends too, Sam was a generous, kind and giving soul. He wanted others to be happy and feel loved and make memories. He exuded class and character and the world is a bit less bright without him. Kori, please don’t hesitate to reach out in the coming weeks. May your love for your children keep you strong during this difficult time. We all have a new angel watching over us from up above. RIP Sam
