Condolences to the Family of Paul J. O’Brien

2017

Was out of town for a week and got this news reading the Clipper tonight. So sorry for your loss. Paul was a great guy. I worked with him a bit on the DUH and he would always ref the over 30 men's league in Hingham. Paul was a Real class guy reffing some classless players. Always handled himself with professionalism and poise out there. If you had him for a Duxbury youth game you knew how fortunate you were to have that level of ref and person out there. Always liked to chat with him after games. Such a nice salt of the earth guy.

Dear Friend; I am so sorry to see you leave us far too early. You are perhaps the nicest gentleman that I have ever had the opportunity to know and to share this existence we call 'life'. Paul, we never shared experiences outside of 'the rink' but that doesn't mean we weren't Friends. We talked; we joked; we laughed; we shared stories of our children, family and work. Everything that you do as a Friend. I will miss you Dear Friend, you were a special man. To the family, I say this from the heart, that you are truly blessed to have Paul in your lives; I say this in the present tense as Paul will always be with you. While, he may not be here in a physical presence; Paul will always be with you as long as you keep him present in your hearts and minds. There will be times that you look at a picture and smile; there will be times that you recall a situation in memory and laugh. You will be reminded of Paul in ways that you don't anticipate, but these innocent little triggers will arouse fond memories that you will always have in your hearts and minds. It's understood that you are sad and that you hurt inside; but as long as you have loving memories in your hearts and mind, Paul will always be with you.

I and my Surge hockey teammates wish to express our condolences to the O’Brien family. I did not know Paul on a personal level. Our interactions were limited to the confines of the hockey rink. Paul officiated many of our late-night games over the years and we considered him one of the best and most respected referees in the NESHL. Paul was always fair, level headed and personable. He will be missed.

Paul was a good man. Humble, honest, friend to others, loved much and gave much. I am heartbroken to hear he has been taken from us, but joyful that he is with his God and maker, in peace and enjoying the rewards of a life well lived. I will miss him, miss his laugh, his down-to-earth disposition, and his kind heart. My heartfelt condolences to his family, his kids that he loved so much. "Well Done Good and Faithful Servant"!

I have been reffing with Paul for over 10 years. He was easily one of my favorite partners as I always enjoyed our conversations about the Pats, boating, and the typical gossip from around the rinks. We never had any issues as Paul always had control of the game and treated the players with respect. I always admired him as a family man with all the stories he had spending time with his kids. It was very clear his kids were his everything in life. I can’t tell you how sorry I am for them. Paul was a great guy and will be missed by all of us in the hockey community. RIP Paul

I was so sorry to hear of your loss and want to offer my deepest sympathy. I know it was sudden and totally unexpected which only makes it harder. I worked with Paul for years and for a brief period for him at Verizon. He was always wonderful to talk with and willing to do whatever he could to get the job done or be of help. A part of him I know you all saw even more then we did. Paul and you are in our hears and prayers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
