Cindy and I are so sorry to have learned of George's passing. He was a great friend and one of the best people I ever knew. We enjoyed going out to lunch, discussing and working on local government legal matters and just talking. Going to our Association meetings will not be the same. He always inquired with genuine interest and sincere advice on our children, who loved him too. Mere words seem inadequate at a time like this, but please know George and all of you are in our thoughts and prayers. May his memory be a blessing for his family and friends.

The Massachusetts Municipal Lawyers Association (MMLA) extends its most sincerest condolences to the Lane family on the passing of our dear colleague, mentor, past President, support and most important- our great friend. George was always willing and eager to share his vast knowledge of local government law with all of us. He was a mainstay at our meetings and events and everyone always looked forward to being greeted by him. He had such a gentle and caring way about him, always being genuinely interested in others. His passing is a great loss to municipal law and to his family and many friends. Just last year George was awarded the President's Award in recognition of his many contributions to municipal law and local government. He's probably already working on a new charter or set of laws for heaven. George will not be forgotten and is already missed.

Dear Lane Family, I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. I loved hearing his stories of all of you and I will miss his jokes. He will be missed at our dinner club at South Shore Hospital. He always read my article in the Weymouth Elks bulletin and had nice things to say about it. We will miss him but we will always cherish his jokes. Paula DeBartolo

It is with heavy hearts that George's family, friends and colleagues are remembering and honoring a noble, sagacious, jovial and kind-hearted man. George always greeted his colleagues from the Massachusetts Municipal Lawyers Association ("MMLA") with a welcome smile, which began in his bright, blue eyes, as he cheerfully said our names and warmly extended a hug or handshake. His humor, charm and intellect were not only admirable and endearing qualities, but also the reasons for several MMLA colleagues naming George as the Honorable Chair of MMLA's Social Committee last fall at our Annual Meeting. George truly lived life and enjoyed its greatest gifts - beginning with his loving family. Last summer, George received MMLA's prestigious President's Award for his innumerable contributions to municipal law and yeoman's work as City Solicitor of Weymouth. Additionally, George was featured in the fall 2015 edition of the Massachusetts Municipal Law Quarterly for his extraordinary legal acumen and, therein, he imparted more words of wisdom. George will be missed by all, and forever remembered as the salt of the earth. Angela Atchue, friend and colleague

Dear George, Maura, Drew, Dan and Michael - my heart is heavy with the news of your dad's passing. He was always a good friend and neighbor, and I have some wonderful memories, good times together. Although I am in northern Ontario and won't be back to MA for another 2 weeks and cannot attend services, I want you to know I am there in spirit and will remember your dad, your mom, and all of you in my prayers. God Bless and take good care of each other. Very fondly, Jeanne
