Condolences to the Family of William E. Varroso

2016

As a fellow graduate of AWHS class of 67 I remember Bill as not only a great competitor but a gentle friend. I'll never forget his laugh and infectious smile. I had the opportunity to attend Boston State with him and him and when my Rolls Royce broke down he was always there to give me a lift. I saw him a few times over the years. He will be in my prayers. Enjoyed Bill's friendship in high school and remembered his beaming smile. We went on together to attend Boston State and I saw him a few times over the years. I will keep him in my prayers.

I graduated from AWHS with Bill. I sent a message to the class of 1967 and one classmate wrote this about Bill that we wanted to share with the family. Deepest sympathy on the loss of Bill. Although he was small in stature, Bill Varroso was one of the most gifted athletes in our class. He was a joy to watch because he ran so powerfully, yet effortlessly. Although he was a tremendous competitor, you would have never known it because he was such a gentle and kind young man. More important than his athletic prowess was his sheer goodness and decency as a human being. Because he was such a private person, he never wanted the spotlight. Coach Art Svenson and Bill had a special bond because Coach knew that Bill was never going to put himself out there for the praise and attention Bill deserved, so Coach Svenson made sure everyone knew about Bill. I went to the induction ceremony for Bill and he was as humble as he always was. It was a privilege for me to have run with (behind) him for four years at Archies and it was even more of a privilege for me to have been his friend. He will be missed. Dick Joseph

Sorry to hear of Bill's passing. My sincere condolences to his extended family. Fond memories of the many laughs we had at the track meets and the bus rides. I see his smile.
