Condolences to the Family of James P. Maconochie

2015

I am so glad that I drove down to the wake yesterday. What a nice tribute to a rare and wonderful man. I am sorry that he was taken from family and friends so soon, but Jimmy Mac certainly left a legacy of living well and taking care of others. I hope that loving memories, family, and friends will help to sustain and heal you in your time of grief.

Jenna and Dana, So sorry for your loss. Mr. Mac was such a great teacher and person. I have many fond memories of social studies class and softball games down at Ginn. Sorry I couldn't make the service, but I was out of town.

Our thoughts are with Jenna, Dana, Owen and Kyle and family. We are so sorry for your loss…but how great that your Dad/pa got to be a big part of the "good" years of the Sox. Your families love of baseball lives on in Owen and Kyle. We are back in Jersey waiting for you but with you in spirit today and tomorrow…Love, The Greens

RoseMary and famiily, my deepest sympathy at this difficult time. My heart is heavy today, but I can still smile knowing that Mr. Mac would want me to be ok. He was a great coach and role model. It was so nice to see him again after graduation at MIAA Hockey games and again at many Red Sox games...He was a true fighter right till the end...I am blessed to have seen him at a softball gathering on his behalf last year. It was nice to catch up and recall the good times at WHS. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend his services as I will be covering a softball doubleheader...but how fitting. Rest in piece my friend, coach and role model...God has taken home another hero.

Rosemary- I am sorry that I will not be able to see you at this difficult time but you will be in my thoughts over the next few days- and beyond. My sister lost her husband just over two years ago. She is making the transition through the several stages of loss and has been supported along the way by her close family. You too will have- and deserve- that source of strength along the way. Another gift is the realization that Jim's was a life well-lived. Not everybody gets to say that. I know that there is much strength in you to draw upon now and later. I send an extra ounce to add to yours. David (McCauley)

I had Mr. Mac in 7th grade and will never forget his smiling face every morning, he was never in a bad mood, always had a joke or something clever to say. And most of all he taught me and countless other kids in a way that made it fun every single day. My Condolences to your family. The world just lost a great guy.

Sad to hear of this. Mr. Mac taught me the state capitals. I rarely saw him after that, until about 20 years later when he was patrolling the concourse at Fenway. I walked up to him and asked "Sir, could you tell me the capital of North Dakota?" He grew a he smile and laughed, and had me remind him exactly which of his countless grown-up students I was. Of course he remembered me, and then spent the next ten minutes trying to find a way to upgrade my seats. A good guy who will be missed.

Dear Rosemary and all the family, I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Jim’s passing. I’ve always considered Gena’s family, my family, and I feel the loss, even though long periods of time and distance separate us. Know that my heart and thoughts are with you, now and always. The Greeks traditionally say, “May you live a long life to remember him.” That’s my wish – may we all live a long life to remember this very special man. My love to you all, Lia Athens, Greece

There was never a negative interaction with Mr. Mac. He was so influential in my becoming a teacher and I remember his classes always had a lot of laughter and learning. He took a genuine interest in all of us and you were really proud of yourself when he gave you compliment. He was more than just a great teacher, he was a great person.

My son Kevin won the state Geography Bee 2 years in a row back in the 90's. We got to go to Washington D. C. and spend a few days with Jim. It was a lot of fun, and Jim was a delightful companion. We toured the sights, played min-golf with the other contestants, and had a great time. Jim was Kevin's all time favorite teacher and inspired him to become the greatest geography student in the school's history. Kevin had a stroke a couple of years ago, so doesn't function as well as he did, but still remembers his geography and talks about Mr. Mac every once in a while. He made McCall School just a little bit brighter and will be missed by all the students he taught.

So sad to hear about Mr Mac passing away. My thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. I have fond memories of 7th grade social studies, not the subject - but the man that taught so many of us for so many years. It was abundantly obvious that Mr Mac had a passion for teaching, and truly cared about each and every student! Thank you for sharing him with us! Battleship Cove was one of my favorite field trips!

Dear Mr. Mac's Family, Thank you for sharing such a wonderful man. He was my teacher, my coach, my role model, and my friend. Jenna Marie and I spent every Enka together when we were young, mostly after soccer games Mr. Mac coached us in. I learned so much from him, he was so patient and encouraging and always made me laugh. So even though I am crying, i can only smile because of how lucky I was to have known him. Thank you Mr. Mac Thank you. May you look down and know what a tremendous impact you had on the Winchester Community. My deepest condolences, Big huge Mr Mac Hug. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love Lisa Benincasa Class of 1991 WHS Mcall Junior High 1987
