It’s many years later, but I came upon this beautiful tribute and it brought back many memories of Tom and Mary. I had the pleasure of meeting Mary through work and I think of her often. She always spoke of her children and family. She and Mr. Shields were the embodiment of goodness.
Lisa serabianDear Shields Family: This is to let you know that I am with you in spirit today as you hold the Mass of Resurrection for your father Tom. For us, that spiritual union is still the best act of friendship because it allows us to be together in a way that even physical presence will not allow. Love , Fr. Bart

alfred j. hicks s.j.Please accept my sincere sympathies on the death Tom Shields. As the financial aid director at Stonehill College for 3 decades, I can clearly bear witness to the generosity of Tom Shields and his wife, Mary Jane. They have supported so very many Stonehill College students through the Shields Scholarship, helping scores of young, capable scholars achieve their dreams. He was always gracious and kind, and truly interested in the well-being of others. Tom and Mary Jane have been a gift to us all.

Edward McLaughlinDear Carmel and family......back in 1981 your father was a frequent visitor to the state house and to Chrm. Michael Creedins office. While I only got to know Tom during the last several years through the Stonehill Board and at events, he always made me feel as though I had known him all my life. A man possessed of great joy, deep faith, much love for family and friends, and of great character and concern for others, he will be missed my many. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Rev. Anthony Grasso, CSCI'm so sorry on the loss of your father Tom. I'm not sure if you remember me but I worked at Madalawn Nursing Home when your folks moved from N.Y. to take full controll of the family business. You were all living in the apartment out back. Most of you were just little kids then. Lew and Ecla were my Mom and Dad who also worked for you folks. You Mom and Dad were great people who did a lot of good things for so many people. They always gave back. My Deepest Sympathy to you and your families, Norma Waugh
