William R. Peters

Peters, William R., age 82 of Wakefield MA,  formerly from South Boston and Quincy, passed away July 20, 2022 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

Born August 19, 1939, Bill grew up in South Boston. He was proud of his Albanian heritage. He initially worked with his parents in their family business, a small corner variety store called Peters Variety in South Boston. His passion had always been music. He graduated from the Berklee School of Music and also spent six years as a member of The Air Force Band. He was an accomplished saxophone and clarinet player who formed his own band called The Bill Peters Orchestra. He spent decades entertaining people with his music. 

Bill married the love of his life Mimi in 1974 and became a wonderful stepfather to his two children, where they eventually settled in Quincy, MA. Bill was also a former member of the Savin Hill Yacht Club and together with his family, enjoyed fishing and boating. Camping trips all over the East coast were another favorite. Eventually, Bill and his wife traveled extensively to Europe, Mexico, Punta Cana, and other countries by river cruises and made life long friends from these adventures. Bill enjoyed cooking, gardening, and entertaining. He was known to pass out vegetables to his neighbors. He had an open door policy and could whip up a meal in minutes! Bill had a tenacious spirit and continued to play his music, dance, and attend the theater in Boston until his mid seventies. Bill fought his illness bravely, despite many setbacks. Recently, he and his wife relocated to Brightview Senior Living in Wakefield. 

He leaves his wife Mildred (Mimi) Peters. They recently celebrated their 48th anniversary. He was predeceased by his mother and father Charles and Esther Peters. He was the older brother to Louis Peters and his wife Linda of Naples, FL. He leaves his youngest brother John Peters and his wife Reggie of Sandwich, MA. He was the devoted stepfather to Kelly Broderick-Peck and her husband Larry of Andover, MA and Thomas Broderick and his wife Anne of Scituate, MA. Bill was the loving Papa to his five grandchildren Brittany Kavanagh and her husband Jason of Dorchester, MA, Stephen Peck of Andover, MA, Justin Broderick of HI, and Mia and Gregory Broderick of Scituate, MA. Bill also leaves behind his nephews Michael, Brian, and James Peters. He was predeceased by his nephew Robert Peters. Also survived by his two aunts Dimitra Popavich  of South Boston and Mildred Metro of Norwood, MA.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday 10 AM – 12 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY followed by a funeral home service at 12 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill may be made to American Parkinson Disease Assoc., 72 East Concord St. – C3, Boston, MA 02118.
