William R. Kosonen

William R. Kosonen of Weymouth, formerly of Rockland, died March 11, 2023 at the age of 65.

William, fondly known as Bill, was born to Harroll Kosonen and Mary (Neary) Bridgida, of Rockland, on January 25, 1958. He was a talented chef and honed his culinary skills working in fine restaurants in Boston. Bill spent the majority of his adult life on the water, working his way from scallop fisherman to tug boat captain for Poling and Cutler in New York Harbor. After his retirement, Bill worked for a brief time for Friends of the Homeless in Norwell.

He was the beloved husband of Peggy (Tully) Kosonen. Loving stepfather of Dan Griffin and his wife Jenna of Pembroke. Proud Grampy of Max, Maeve, and Liam. Brother of John Rivers of Norwell; Karyl Berg and her husband Steve of Goffstown, NH; the late Christopher Kosonen; the late Steven Kosonen and his wife Deborah; and the late Sharon Palladino and her husband Rick. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Apart from Bill’s passion for cooking and the sea, he was an avid lover of golf and spent countless weekends watching tournaments and encouraging his adored grandchildren to take up the sport. His faith was central to his life. Bill also loved vacationing in Maine with Peggy.

As an active member of Crossroads Worship Center, Bill volunteered and provided his cooking talents.  He was very handy and could fix or build most anything. Bill was a loving husband, a caring stepfather and a doting Grampy. More than anything, Bill was a giver, of his love, his time, and his wisdom, all of which he shared selflessly. We’ll carry his lessons everywhere we go and in our hearts he will remain. Bill will be missed dearly.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home South Weymouth at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:15 AM or gather directly at Crossroads Worship Center, 241 Broad Street, Weymouth for a funeral service at Noon.
