William J. Begley

Mr. William J. Begley, of North Weymouth, passed away on May 20, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was 100 years old.

William J. Begley was born in South Boston in 1923 and was the eldest son of seven growing up during the Great Depression.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was deployed to the South Pacific during WWII.

He graduated from the Franklin Technical Institute in Boston with a degree in design drafting and worked for Boston Edison, becoming head of the Design Drafting Division.

He married the late Ann (Connelly) Begley in 1951 and moved to Weymouth in 1955 and has four children, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He held many volunteer positions over the years.  He served as president of the Friends of the Council on Aging and chaired the board of Weymouth Elder Services for many years.   He co-founded the North Weymouth Civic Association in 1972, served as a Weymouth Town Meeting member and as a member of the Weymouth Planning Board.  He coached baseball for the Weymouth under-12 Farm League, volunteered for the Weymouth Food Pantry and Farther Bill’s shelter in Quincy and was active in St Jerome Church.   But, most of all Bill enjoyed time with his family, sharing in the many gatherings and celebrations over the years.

Beloved husband of the late Ann (Connelly) Begley. 

Loving father of David Begley and his wife, Marsha, of Weymouth, William J. Begley, Jr and his wife, Alice, of Mashpee, Karen Keenan and her husband, Richard, of Weymouth, and Timothy Begley and his wife, Jeanette, of Weymouth. 

Brother of the late David, James, John, Mary, and Joseph Begley, and Alice Lee.

Brother in law of Walter Connelly and his late wife, Margaret, of Weymouth, and Jean O’Sullivan and her late husband, Bernard of Weymouth. 

Proud Papa of David, Steven, Kevin, Brendan, Maureen, Eric, Carolyn, and Danielle. Also survived by 11 great granchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 11 AM Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 12 PM. Burial will follow in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.
