William J. Armstrong

Armstrong, William J. of Norwell, formerly of Hingham, died April 10, 2018.

William’s life revolved around his loving family.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking the White Mountains, riding his bike along the Cape Cod Canal, playing racquetball, and running at Nantasket Beach.  He even completed four Boston Marathons and was an active member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and escorted several groups hiking the White Mountains.  Bill was the Chief Nuclear Engineer for the Pilgrim Power Plant for over 40 years.  His other passion was the United States Marine Corp for which he served as Drill Instructor during the Korean War conflict at Parris Island in South Carolina.  Talented with his hands, he built his own home in Hingham as well as several others.  Bill was well read, intelligent and loved music.

Beloved husband of Jeannine D. (LaFond) Armstrong of Hingham. Loving father of Aimee Armstrong of Hingham, Carrie Armstrong of Hingham, and William J. Armstrong, Jr. of NH.  Son of the late John R. Armstrong and Margaret (O’Donnell) Armstrong.  Brother of Jean Phalon of Braintree, Carol Minehan of Plymouth, and the late Francis, Jack, and Walter Armstrong.  Cherished grandfather of Rachel Kafka and her husband Nate Hennagin, and Molly Kafka; all of CA.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Cremation will follow.
