Veteran

Walter J. Wojner

Walter J. Wojner, 88, of East Weymouth went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on April 26, 2018.  Beloved husband of the late Barbara (Ladd) Wojner.  Loving father of John J. Wojner and his wife Jeanne (Powers) of Rockland, MA. and Cheryl A. Weisse and her husband Richard of Weymouth, MA.  Devoted grandfather to his four grandchildren; Nichole Berkery and her husband Michael, Christine  Wojner, Bryan and Julianne Weisse.

Walter was a long-time resident of East Weymouth formerly of Dorchester. He graduated from Boston Technical High School and then served as a combat veteran in the Korean War. Upon his return he obtained his bachelor’s degree at The University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  He worked in the electrical industry in sales and purchasing for General Electric, M. B. Foster and Fischbach & Moore.  He was also a 50-year employee of The United States Post Office.

Nothing was more important to Walter than his family and friends.  As a youngster he played many a football and baseball game at Hemenway Park.  He continued to maintain those close relationships from his youth through the monthly luncheons with the Dorchester Wildcats.  He loved sports and very much enjoyed rooting for the Patriots and Bruins.  Walter had a zest for life and lived it fully.  He had a passion for constantly learning and reading and was always up for a healthy discussion about current events, history, politics and sports.  He had a tremendous sense of humor and was quick to share a good joke accompanied by his infectious laugh.   He was very active within The Immaculate Conception parish including Boy Scouts and as the garden and grotto caretaker for many years.  Walter was never happier than when he was outdoors and gardening.  He was the neighborhood horticulture expert always ready  to lend a hand to help others with their gardening needs.
