Rose M. (Cannata) Smith of Weymouth, died February 22, 2015. Rose was born and raised in the North End of Boston and has lived in Weymouth for many years.  She was a selfless woman who enjoyed and committed much of her time to helping others.  

As a loving and devoted mother she single handedly raised 3 children. Continuing this motherly devotion later in life, she cared for her daughter Sandra and 3 young grandchildren after Sandra was stricken with cancer.  At the same time as caring for her daughter, Rose was 58 when she began a 22 year career as a Home Health Aide for Family Service of Greater Boston receiving numerous awards for her devotion to clients, including the Effie Chalmers Waddell Award.  She retired when she was 78 years old so she could be with her remaining daughter Linda, who was also stricken with cancer. Rose’s incredible strength and journey through life are even more remarkable since she was a breast cancer survivor from many years ago when she was a young woman.  Rose’s love and capacity to give both to family and others was stronger than many of us can ever imagine.   

She was an avid walker known throughout the community who enjoyed meeting people and playing bingo with friends. 

Devoted mother of Alan Smith of Botswana, Africa and the late Sandra Loiurio and Linda Swain. Loving sister of Albert Cannata of Las Vegas and predeceased by 4 siblings. Cherished “Nana” of 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also survived by nieces, nephews and friends. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Saturday 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off RT.3A-Bicknell Sq.) 

Burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weymouth, at a later date.
