Robert “Bobby” Gilligan

Gilligan, Robert Reynolds, 88, beloved husband of 62 years to Marjorie (Abbott) Gilligan, passed peacefully at home on August 27.  Bob was a life-long resident of Weymouth.  Soon after graduating from Weymouth High School in 1946, Bob enlisted in the Army.  He retired from the Army Reserves as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 after 25 years.  He was employed as the Workers Compensation Agent for the Town of Weymouth for several years.  He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 32.  Bob loved traveling with their group of friends, music, dancing and a good joke.  He also loved vacationing in New Hampshire each summer with all of his children and grandchildren.  More than anything, he loved his family.  He is predeceased by his parents, James and Roseanna Gilligan, his sisters Frieda Kowalski and her husband Frank, Celia Grogan and her husband Harry, as well as his brother Lawrence (Buddy) Gilligan.  He is survived by his sister Muriel Gilligan of Hingham.  Bob also had many cousins, nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.  Along with his wife, Marjorie, Bob is survived by his three daughters and their husbands who he also thought of as his sons, Mary (Meg) Mongrello and her husband Joe of Weymouth, Cathleen Murphy and her husband Eugene of Weymouth, Paula Wiles and her husband Kevin of Braintree, his grandchildren, Adam Griffiths and his wife Jill of Milton, Kimberly Griffiths of Weymouth, Elizabeth Mongrello of Somerville, Stephanie Mongrello of Taunton, Kerry (Murphy) Flynn and her husband Sean of Weymouth, Kevin Wiles, Jr. of Braintree, Victoria Wiles of Braintree and his great grandson A.J. Griffiths. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 8:30 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Albert the Great Church, Weymouth at 9:30 AM. Burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, P.O. Box 97007 Washington DC 20090-87007.  A nonprofit organization training & providing assistance dogs for the visually impaired.
