Richard Patrick Owens

OWENS, Richard Patrick 66, longtime resident of Quincy, died Sunday August 5, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, he was a son of the late Edward and Catherine (Flaherty) Owens.

Richard was raised and educated in South Boston, and went on to attend Boston Tech, and earned his BS in Law Enforcement from Boston State College, and later his Masters in Education and Juris Doctor from Boston University. After serving a term in the United States Marine Corps, he became a Weymouth Police Officer, and later was an Attorney with Verizon. He enjoyed boating, spending time in New Hampshire, traveling, and Karate, and was a member of the Institute of Okinawan Karate-Do. The most important thing in Richard’s life was his family. There was no limit to the lengths he would go to help out family members.

Beloved husband of Jeanne (Curran) Owens of Quincy. Devoted father of Sean Owens and his wife Lauren of Quincy, and Cara Owens of Hull. Loving grandfather of Ava and Sophia Owens. Brother of Marianne Healy of Weymouth and her late husband Kenneth, Joseph Owens and his wife Rosemary of Plymouth, Robert Owens and his wife Geraldine of Quincy, Kathryn Feeney of CT and her late husband Frank, and the late Edward Owens and his wife Florence, the late Thomas Owens and his wife Joan of Plymouth whom survives, and the late Paul Owens and his wife Barbara of MD whom survives. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Family and friends will gather in the funeral home beginning at 9:30 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Agatha’s Church, Milton at 10:30 AM. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Richard may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
