Richard J. Gerraughty

Gerraughty, Richard J., age 76, of Hingham formerly of Quincy and Dorchester, passed away on May 11, 2017 at Webster Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rockland.

Richard was a quadriplegic for 26 years.  Prior to his injury he was a specialty welder for General Dynamics Shipyard in Quincy, among other locations.  He was a US Navy Veteran and served aboard the USS Farragut, during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  

Father of Richard and James Gerraughty.  Son of the late Frank “Fat” Gerraughty and Anna “Bella” (Manning).  Brother of Francis “Sonny” Gerraughty of Marshfield, Robert “Bob” Gerraughty of Taunton, Rita Wold of FL, Claire Cotter of Hingham, and the late Barbara Gould and Marie Gerraughty-Collinson.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 9:30-10:30 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 AM.  Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne, Thursday at 1:15 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard may be made to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, 636 Morris Turnpike, Suite 3A, Short Hills, NJ 07078.  

The family wishes to thank the staff at Webster Park Rehabilitation and South Shore Hospital, for providing dignified and compassionate care to Richie.
