Phillip W. Doherty

DOHERTY, Phillip W. “Phil” 80, longtime Hingham resident, died Monday, May 21, 2018.  

Son of the late Phillip T. and Mildred (Burke) Doherty.  Beloved husband of 57 years of Nancy J. (Douglass).  Devoted father of Amy  J. Sherwin and her husband  Eric of Quincy, and Michael P. Doherty of Scituate.  Loving grandfather of Joshua and Daniel Sherwin of Quincy.  Brother of the late Carol Rogers.  Uncle of Leah Berry and her husband James of Portsmouth NH, and the late Thomas, John, and Betsy Rogers.  Great-uncle of Elise Griffin, and Nicholas Berry.  Also survived by his brother in-law Robert Douglass and his wife Audrey of Elmhurst IL, and their children Kate Seinwert, Jessica Jordan, Jennifer Brooks, and Gary and Grant Douglass.  

Phillip was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, and Boston College, and worked until his retirement as a Regional Salesman for Fuji – Hunt.  As a 1955 graduate of Archbishop Williams, he was a member of their first varsity hockey team and also played football.  Phil stayed connected over the years and was a long-time substitute teacher and volunteer with the school.  He was one of the most loyal supporters of the athletic teams, and was especially proud that his grandsons, Joshua and Daniel, followed in his footsteps as outstanding graduates of the AWHS community.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, gentlemen’s hockey and being a part of AWHS with his grandsons. Mr. Doherty was an active Parishoner at St. Jerome’s.  

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday May 29, from 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Family and friends will gather in the funeral home beginning at 9:30 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, 632 Bridge St., No. Weymouth at 10:30. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.  Expressions of sympathy may be made in Phillip’s memory to Archbishop Williams High School Annual Fund, C/O Anthony Chighisola, Development Officer, 40 Independence Avenue, Braintree.
