Philip J. Scott

Philip J. Scott, founder of Patriot Cinemas, died March 21, 2015, after a brief illness. 

Phil was the President and owner of the Patriot Cinemas chain, where he operated movie theaters all over New England for over 50 years.  During his career Phil was a proud member of many industry associations including Theatre Owners of New England (TONE) and National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO). Married in 1964 at Resurrection in Hingham, he was an active parishioner and a philanthropist to several charities that were close to his heart.  Phil received an Associates Degree from Burdett College of Business and served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War.  Movies were always a passion for  Phil, who managed theaters during his time in high school, college and in the armed services.  He and Edie, his wife of 50 years,  traveled extensively throughout the world. Phil loved to be with his family.

He was the beloved husband of Edie (MacDougall) Scott, of Hingham; loving father to David A. Scott and his wife Marybeth of Scituate and James R. Scott and his wife Layla of Haverhill; and proud grandfather to Emily, Abigail and Samuel Scott of Scituate and Lauren, Megan and Noah Scott of Haverhill.  Phil is survived by many cousins and loving relatives and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the Loring Hall, 65 Main St., Hingham. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Church of the Resurrection, 1057 Main St., Hingham at Friday at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Phil’s honor to The Joey Fund to fight cystic fibrosis, 220 North Main St., Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760; The Church of the Resurrection or a charity of your choice.
