Perry L. Moore

Moore, Perry L. of Hingham, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 18, 2022.

Perry was born in Grand Lake Stream Maine to the late Louise and Lawrence Moore. He left Grand Lake Stream in 1962 to join the United States Navy and volunteered for Submarine duty. He spent four years in the Navy and during that time was assigned to the USS Sea Owl SS-405 as a Torpedoman’s Mate. He left the Navy in 1966 and began his career as a Carpenter. For most of his life he worked for the Local 40 Carpenters Union based out of Cambridge MA. Perry married the love of his life Jean in 1984. The two settled down in Hingham in 1986 where they have lived ever since. They had a son Kevin who followed currently serves in the United States Marine Corps.

Perry met his wife “Jeanie” while she was walking her dog in Brookline where they both lived. They both shared a deep love for Airedale Terriers. Perry could be often seen in his later years walking his companion LuLu around Webb Park in North Weymouth. Perry was an outstanding and accomplished sailor who raced competitively for years in the PHRF around Boston Harbor. The other love of his live was his sailboat a J30 named “Frolic”. Perry and his beloved wife Jean used to sail up and down the coast of Massachusetts and Maine during summertime.

Perry devoted his to life family. When his son Kevin was young he gave up his life’s passion in racing his sailboat so he could spend more time teaching Kevin how to sail. You could often catch Perry in the stands of his son’s hockey practices and games still in his work clothes because he came right from the job site so he wouldn’t miss a minute.

When Perry wasn’t at home with his wife Jean he was either down at the South Shore Yacht Club which he joined in 1988 or Bert’s Boat Yard. He would always be helping out an applying his construction skills to the upkeep of the club. Most of his closest friends are members of the Club. He prided himself on having the coldest beer on the dock. Everyday at 7am for the past 15 years Perry had coffee with his Veteran buddies at Niko’s Restaurant in Jackson Square in Weymouth. He and his buddies could be seen sitting in the corner drinking coffee and joking around. Perry lived a full life up until his death.

Beloved husband of 38 years to Jean Raas-Moore of Hingham. Loving father of Kevin C. Moore of Texas and Tawny Moore of Florida. Dear brother of Cathy Shamel and her husband Bill of Maine and the late Peter Moore and his wife Paula of Washington.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, June 29, 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home North Weymouth at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). A burial service with military honors will be held on Thursday, June 30, at 10:15 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
