Patricia O. Ruddy

Patricia (Pat) ’Connor Ruddy March 6, 1934 – August 22, 2019. Pat was born in Boston MA, the daughter of I. Jerome O’Connor and Dorothy Fitzpatrick O’Connor. She is survived by her children, Kathleen LeBlanc and her husband Paul of Hingham, Charlie Ruddy of Scituate, Patricia Ruddy of Montpeiler, Vermont, Lauralee Tedeschi and her husband Mark of Hingham, Jenna Verrochi of Hull, and James Harrington of Abington. She was the grandmother of Caitlin LeBlanc Reichart of Hull, Bridget LeBlanc Nims of Orlando, Florida, Paul LeBlanc Jr. of Washington D.C., Jenelle Verrochi of Boston, Michael Verrochi of Boston, Brian Ruddy of Raleigh NC, Meghan Ruddy of Raleigh NC, Justin, Brendan, Cameron and Jackson Tedeschi of Hingham, Rehana and Jalila Nazerali-Ruddy of Montpelier, Vermont, Tyler Harrington of Framingham and Jordan Harrington of Abington. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Eleanor Reichart of Hull and Theodore Nims of Orlando, Florida. She leaves her sisters Pauline Smith of Somersworth, NH and Edna O’Connor of Perris, CA., and brother Kevin Fitzpatrick of Weymouth, and the late Margaret (Peg) O’Connor and the late Jerome O’Connor. Also survived by her nieces and nephews who she loved with all her heart.

Pat raised her large family in Hingham which would grow to include 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She later moved to Hull, where she possessed a love of the beach, hosting beach-walk parties, gardening and driving her cherished purple convertible. Pat will be remembered for love of life, love of family, her inclusive, welcoming nature, her unfailing optimism, her sense of humor and her vibrant smile.

She was educated as a boarding student with the Notre Dame of Halifax Nuns at the Academy of the Assumption in Wellesley, MA, class of 1952. She attended Boston College where she met her future husband, Charles Ruddy Junior. She transferred to Burbank School of Nursing where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1955. She was dedicated to her nursing career for 60 years, and worked at Boston Children’s Hospital, Hingham Visiting Nurses where she served as its Director and served as the Public Health Nurse for the town of Hingham where she also served as the school nurse for St. Paul’s School and Derby Academy where she touched hundreds of lives through health counseling, well-child clinics, blood pressure clinics, the stroke club and outreach to the community. Pat also had local leadership roles at the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross and the Harbor Islands League.

 

A Wake will be held on Monday, August 26th at Pyne-Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, in Hingham with visiting hours from 4-7 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 27th at Saint Anne’s Church in Hull at 10:00 am. Burial will be private.
