Michael J. “Mike” Shine

Private Service

Michael J. “Mike” Shine, of Halifax and formerly of Quincy, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on October 9, 2018 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. He was 65.

Born in Quincy on December 26, 1952, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Helen (Gealsha) Shine. Mike attended local schools and graduated from Quincy Vocational Technical High School with the Class of 1969.

Following his graduation, Mike entered the printing business and worked as a machine operator for Courier Corporation. Mike worked with his brother in the printing and binding industry for over thirty years. Though he enjoyed his work and valued the opportunity to work with his hands, Mike happily retired in 2013.

Mike was a wonderful son, brother and uncle. His family was important to him and he loved them very much. When asked how Mike would want to be remembered, his family all agreed that he would want to be remembered as being a devoted and loving son.

A shy and reserved person, Mike enjoyed spending his time tinkering with things that he enjoyed fixing. In his spare time, Mike liked to build remote control operated airplanes and radios. He loved airplanes and would often watch the planes take off and land from his boat, just outside of Logan Airport. He was also an excellent gardener. He grew vegetables and flowers, with sunflowers being one of his favorites.

Mike owned boats throughout his life and loved being out on the water fishing leisurely.  He was happy to spend time out on the ocean alone or with passengers.  He had a love and respect of all ocean life.

Mike was a kind, loving and helpful person. He made an positive impact on the lives around him and will always be remembered for his authenticity and ability to love and care for others.

Mike was the dear brother of Shephen Shine and his wife Sharon of Hanson and Patricia Maggiani of Plymouth. He was the loving uncle of Christopher Shine and his spouse Aaron, Amanda Shine, all of Hanson, Rachael Maggiani of Plymouth, Andrew Maggiani of Mansfield and Haley Maggiani of Plymouth.

At the request of Mike’s family, visiting hours are respectfully omitted and his funeral services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Michael may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, 401 Park Drive, Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215.
