Michael C. Chesna

Michael C. Chesna of Hanover, died July 15, 2018 at the age of 42.

Following 9/11, Mike joined the U.S. Army to serve his country with the 187 10th Mountain Division, serving two tours of duty, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He later fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a police officer with the Town of Weymouth. Mike was a massive sports fan. Besides being an avid basketball player in his weekly men’s league, he followed all the Boston sports teams with a passion and had a particular devotion to Bill Belichick. Mike was a collector. Among his collection were watches, bobbleheads, baseball cards and football helmets. He was smart and generous, but most of all he loved wrestling with his son Jack and doting on his favorite girl Olivia, who will always remember her Dad’s hugs.

He was the beloved husband of Cynthia “Cindy” (Doran) Chesna. Loving father of Olivia and Jack. Cherished son of Maryann “Mimi” P. (McAvoy) Chesna and Charles F. Chesna of South Weymouth. Loving brother of Eric S. Chesna of Weymouth. Son in law of Marie and Frank Doran of Marshfield. Brother in law of Jeanne and David Hicks of Weymouth, Debbie and Joe Comperchio of Pembroke and Frankie and Melissa Doran of Marshfield. Also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in St. Mary’s Church, 392 Hanover Street, Hanover. Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Hanover on Friday at 11 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Officer Chesna’s memory may be made to the Officer Michael Chesna Family Fund, and mail or drop off the checks at the Weymouth Police Station, 140 Winter St., Weymouth 02188.
