Maureen D’Arcy nee Mullen, a native of Lettermore, Co. Galway, Ireland passed away peacefully on April 15, 2017. Maureen had been a resident of Quincy for the last 40 years before that residing in Dorchester, MA. Daughter of the late Kathleen (Connolly) Mullen and Colm Mullen.

Maureen leaves behind her adoring husband, Gerard D’Arcy (Dudd) her children Maura and her husband, Jamie Pontremoli, her son Gerard and his wife Siobhan and her son, Ciaran. Her legacy includes five grandchildren, Joseph, Fiona, Elise, Colm and Orlaith.

Maureen is also survived by a brother Sean Mullen, who resides in Australia, as well as his two daughters , Bernadette Rouda and Maureen Mullen of Australia. She leaves behind many family members from her youth including Maureen and Vincent Larkin of Lettermore, Co. Galway.

Maureen lost her mom at a very young age, yet she persevered through life to observe and preserve her memory. She left Ireland at the young age of 13 and her mother followed her all through her life continually guiding her in the right direction.  She eventually landed in Boston, MA. There she met her husband Dudd at one of the famous Irish dance halls on Dudley Street. They married in 1963.

Maureen thrived on her yearly trips back home. She especially loved her trips to back to Spiddal for a “spin”, which actually meant shopping in Standuns followed by a trip to the Cruiscin Lan for a “Holy Cow” aka Jameson with milk. She was accompanied on many of these trips by her sisters and brothers in law who would make the “spin” into an event! One of the many famous spins ended up at the Westwood in Galway for a special dessert of “scutterbotch sauce and ice cream. Maureen was known for her dry wit. She and her sister in law Peg, had been known to break into uncontrollable( often painful) bouts of laughter. She had multiple nieces and nephews in the US and Ireland. She is fondly remembered by her Irish nieces and nephews as their “American” mother. Her bond with late members of the family never ceased.  She remained attached to all who went before her. She never quite recovered from their loss. These include; Maureen Pagnam , Johnny D’Arcy, Peg Casey, Anthony Burke all members of their own “clan”.

She was a woman of great dignity who remained in charge of her own destiny until her peaceful death.

We would like to thank all who were involved with her care since she became ill, including but not limited to SSVNA, Beth Israel Milton Hospital and Seasons Hospice.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 11 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston.
