Mary B. “Maym” O’Shaughnessy

Mrs. Mary B. (Curran) “Maym” O’Shaughnessy of Abington, passed away on January 12, 2022.

Maym was born in a tiny village in Co. Galway.  In her 82 years here on this earth she blessed so many with her warmth, humor and wit.   No doubt, she had the gift of the gab.  She left home for England at a young age, then moved to America, cultivating a life here for the last 59 years with family and friends who loved her dearly.  She self diagnosed herself with Friedrich’s Ataxia many years ago, slowly losing mobility over time.  That did not stop her. Together with PJ, they took trips to see more of the world, until travel became too difficult.  She never missed an opportunity to attend a social event or activities that the grandchildren were in.  If she could go, she did.   She dealt with her physical issues with grace, dignity and strength.  Her remarkable outlook on life is a gift, example, and legacy that no one will forget.

Beloved wife of PJ O’Shaughnessy, loving mother of Michael O’Shaughnessy and his wife, Colleen, of Middleboro, Debbie O Broin and her husband, Steven, of Whitman, David O’Shaughnessy of Abington, and Maura DiPlacido and her husband, Mark, of Arlington.  Cherished Sister of Ann Flaherty of Dorchester, Winifred and Brid McDonough, Barbara, Paddy, Coleman, and James Curran of Minna, Co. Galway. Treasured Nana to Mary Kate, Michael, Eve, Cian, Nicholas, Christopher, Sasha, Joseph, and Riley.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday January 18th from  4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home South Weymouth at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).

Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:30 on Wednesday, January 19th prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church, Abington at 10:30 AM.  Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friedrich’s Ataxia Research Alliance www.curefa.org
