Margaret “Geri” (O’Keefe) Sheehan

Margaret “Geri” (O’Keefe) Sheehan of Weymouth passed peacefully on July 25, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late John “Jack” Sheehan.

The daughter of the late John and Margaret O’Keefe, Geri was born in Boston and raised in Roxbury, eventually moving to Braintree.  The oldest of nine children, she loved growing up in a busy, happy home that was filled with an endless stream of visiting family members, friends and neighbors. She never missed a chance to make her way to Boston, a city she loved.  After the family moved to the suburbs, she still commuted long hours by train to Boston to complete her high school education at Holy Trinity School in Roxbury.

Geri and Jack were married on June 3rd,  1961. Shortly after the arrival of their first child, a daughter, they moved to Weymouth and in the years that followed welcomed four boys. Their lives revolved around raising their children and supporting their many activities. Geri was actively involved in community, school and parish volunteer activities, especially at St. Jerome’s Church and St. Jerome’s School. For several decades she volunteered with other Saint Jerome’s parishioners in preparing and serving meals at Father Bill’s Place.

Geri provided endless support and made many sacrifices to provide her five children with great educations. As her youngest approached his graduation from college, though, she declared that it was her turn and enrolled at UMass Boston, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in 2003.

If you were a friend of Geri’s, you had a friend for life. She was most happy sitting around a crowded table, surrounded by friends, playing cards or retelling one of her famously funny stories. She never liked to miss an event, especially one that included the Murphy’s of Hough’s Neck. It was at one of these parties, many years ago, that her dear friend Margaret introduced her to Jack and the family has been forever grateful for that.

Geri was a devoted mother to Margaret S. Norton of Weymouth, John D. Sheehan, Jr. of Weymouth, Mark C. Sheehan of Quincy, Craig G. Sheehan of Marshfield, and Michael F. Sheehan of Boston. Geri adored her in-laws Michael Norton, Rosemary Sheehan, Tracy Sheehan and Lasair O’Callaghan. They were devoted to her, found her to be endlessly entertaining, and always welcomed her into their homes.

She was “Mimi” to eight grandchildren who will have happy stories to tell for the rest of their lives. She was incredibly proud of Maggie, Johnny and Kevin Norton, Patrick, Jack, Abigail, Siena and Ruby Sheehan. Just last week, she learned that she was going to be a grandmother for the ninth time, an announcement she welcomed with as much excitement as the eight that preceded this wonderful news.  She was loved by so many of the friends of her children and grandchildren and many whom also embraced her as Mimi.

Sister of Joanne O’Keefe, Judith O’Brien, Jackie Cartel, Raymond O’Keefe, Peter O’Keefe, Christopher O’Keefe, the late Michael O’Keefe and the late Paul O’Keefe.  Aunt and cousin to many, she loved all her nieces and nephews, and the many O’Keefe, Farrell and Bruce cousins.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday, August 1st from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square).

Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, August 2, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, 632 Bridge Street,  North Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial will immediately follow at St. Francis Cemetery, 726 Washington Street, Weymouth.
