Margaret E. Sandahl

Sandahl, Margaret E. “Peg” of East Weymouth went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2017, after a long illness.

Peg was born on March 16, 1940, to Oliver and Elizabeth (Betty) Merrill and grew up in Wollaston. She graduated from North Quincy High School in 1957 and went on to UMass Amherst to get her bachelors degree in teaching. While teaching in Connecticut, she met her future husband, Joseph G. Sandahl, Jr., at a multi church fellowship picnic and they married in 1962.

Peg was a life-long devoted member of the Wollaston Congregational Church, where she was secretary for many years, but also generously volunteered her time on many committees and activities, including the church fair, board of trustees, deacons, Mr. & Mrs. Club, and church collector/treasurer, among others.

Her love of God and helping others led her to work at Interfaith Social Services (ISS). For many years she was the adoption secretary, but was also involved in many committees and activities, including the annual walk-a-thon. After retiring, she continued to volunteer until she was physically unable. Peg was an avid reader and loved to share books with her friends.

Peg is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, her 2 children, Jon E. Sandahl of Hanson and his wife Kristin, Pam Engstrom and her husband Jonathan, and three grandchildren, Jillian and Jack Sandahl and Elizabeth Engstrom. She is also survived by her brother, George Merrill and his wife Liz, of Naples, Florida, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Wollaston Congregational Church, 48 Winthrop Ave, Quincy 02170. On Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 11am, followed by a reception in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wollaston Congregational Church or Interfaith Social Services, 105 Adams St., Quincy, MA 02169.
